Terms of service

Effective June 28, 2026.

These terms govern your use of Inmate Outpost(the “site”), operated by Flipvo LLC. By using the site — whether you list a profile or simply browse and write a letter — you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the site.

What the service is

Inmate Outpostis a public directory of incarcerated people who would like to receive mail. Profiles are submitted by family or close contacts and reviewed by us before publication. We are a directory only. We do not deliver, relay, screen, scan, or store correspondence: mail goes directly to the facility's mailing address shown on each profile. We are not affiliated with any prison, jail, or department of corrections.

Listings and fees

  • A listing publishes one profile in the directory and is sold as a recurring subscription. We offer a Standard listing and a Featured listing, each billed either yearly or monthly; current prices are shown during checkout.
  • The subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period using the payment method on file, and the charge recurs until you cancel. Some listings begin with a free trial; if so, the first charge is taken when the trial ends unless you cancel before then.
  • You can cancel at any time from the listing's billing portal. When you cancel, the profile stays live through the end of the period you have already paid for, then is removed from the public directory. Canceling stops future charges; it does not retroactively refund the current period.

Refunds

Subscription fees are charged in advance for each billing period, and we generally do not refund a period that has already been published — cancel before the next renewal to stop future charges. If we remove a profile for cause, or in other circumstances at our discretion, we may issue a full or partial refund and cancel the subscription. Refunds are decided case by case; there is no automatic or self-service refund. When a refund is granted, we record it in our system and process the actual return of funds through our payment processor — please allow normal processing time for it to reach your account.

Who may submit a listing

  • A listing must be submitted by an immediate family member or close personal contact of the incarcerated person.
  • You must submit with the incarcerated person's knowledge and consent, and a bio must be written in that person's own voice or with their explicit consent.
  • One listing per incarcerated person.
  • You confirm that the information you provide — including the facility address and inmate ID number — is accurate and that you are entitled to share it.

Content and photos

  • Photos must depict the profile subject, must not show other identifiable people without their consent, and must not contain nudity or images of facility staff, security equipment, or security-sensitive details.
  • One photo is required; up to three are allowed.
  • Bios are published as you submit them — we do not rewrite or edit them. You are responsible for the accuracy and lawfulness of the content you provide.

Prohibited content

  • Solicitation of money, gifts, or commissary funds within a bio.
  • Profiles of anyone convicted of crimes against children.
  • Profiles of anyone currently barred from correspondence by their facility.
  • Content that violates the mail or correspondence policies of the facility where the person is held.
  • False, misleading, infringing, harassing, or unlawful content, and photos taken from another source without the right to use them.

Content ownership and license

You keep ownership of the bio text and photos you submit. By submitting them, you grant Inmate Outpost a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, reproduce, and distribute that content for the purpose of operating and promoting the directory. This license ends when the content is removed, except for copies retained in routine backups for a limited period. You confirm you have the rights and consents needed to grant this license.

For letter-writers

  • You must be at least 18 years old to write to anyone listed on the site.
  • You write at your own risk. Inmate Outpost does not screen letters, vet writers, vet incarcerated recipients, or take responsibility for the contents or outcome of any correspondence.
  • Use common sense. Do not send money or contraband, and assume that any letter you send may be read by facility staff. Follow the mail rules of the specific facility.

Moderation and removal

We review every submission before it is published and may decline or remove any profile, at our discretion, if it breaks these terms or a facility's policies, or for other good-faith reasons. Family of a profile subject may request removal at any time by contacting us; we act on verified family requests.

Disclaimers

Inmate Outpostis provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not guarantee that mail will be delivered, that anyone will reply, or anything about the conduct, character, or intentions of any incarcerated person or letter-writer. Any relationship that forms through the directory is between those individuals alone. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Inmate Outpost and Flipvo LLC are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for the actions of any incarcerated person or letter-writer, arising from your use of the site or any correspondence connected to it.
